The love of money

Beloved, the media reported last week on the sentencing of Karen Matthews, for the part that she played in the kidnap of her daughter, Shannon. The sentence is 8 years in prison. Regardless of the length of the prison term, I believe planning and participating in the kidnap of your own child for the sake of the reward money is beyond comprehension. So, I wonder how a mother could possibly place a monetary value on her child. While Karen Matthews may value her child to be worth a few thousand pounds, God’s value of you and indeed all His children is Himself. Nothing, not a thing, on this side of heaven is equal to your value. It took God to die on the Cross to redeem you. Your value is heavenly. You are more valuable than anything on the earth! Praise God!

~ A word for your week~ 1 Tim 6:10

Beloved, our text this week reads “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”. I believe this is the harsh reality in the case of Karen Matthews. I am sure she loved her daughter as a mother would but her love or lust, really, overwhelmed her love for her child so that she was driven to participate in the planning and kidnap of her own daughter, for the reward money. As she goes to prison, Shannon and her other children will be taken into care, that’s a family in tatters, thrown into this ugly situation because of a mother’s lust for money. Matt 6:24 says “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon”. For the child of God, mammon which is symbolic of money and the pursuit of it is not his/her focus. God is our focus. As we seek and pursue Him, all these things that the unbelievers seek after shall be added unto us! What a God we serve! Bless His name!

Miracles still happen!

Beloved, the world was astounded last week when all 155 people on board a US Airways A320 passenger plane that crashed into New York’s Hudson River escaped with no loss of life. Save for some minor scratches and injuries, both passengers and crew were unscathed. What a miracle! Even Metro newspaper reported the story in its front page as a ‘Miracle on the Hudson River’. So, the world acknowledges that miracles still happen, but how do they happen? I’d like to answer by saying that there’s a miracle working God behind the scenes. And He is the God that we serve! Join me in thanking Him for protecting these 155 souls and for sparing New York and indeed the United States more grief and sorrow. Jehovah is the miracle working God; praise Him for wonder working power!!!

~ A word for your week ~ John 2:1-11

Beloved, our text this week reminds us of the miracle the Lord did at the wedding in Cana of Galilee. In verse 11, the Contemporary English Version says that this was Jesus’ first miracle…And He showed His glory and His disciples put their faith in Him. There are three lessons I would like to share with you, from this text –

(1) God does miracles to meet a need – they had run out of wine in the wedding feast, so, an unbudgeted need arose, which Jesus duly met. Is there a need in your life, God is able to meet all your needs

(2) God does miracles to reveal His glory – His glory in this context is what He is able to do and He can do all things! Nothing is too difficult for the Lord and

(3) for people to have faith in Him. Do not despair, God is able to do the so called impossible. When God does what we have always known as impossible, we cannot but put our trust and faith in Him.

So, as we see this miracle that God did on the Hudson River, let us therefore hold fast to our faith in Him. He is a faithful God and will always answer with a miracle. Are you waiting on Him for any thing? Do not lose faith; your miracle is on the way!

It’s a shaking

Beloved, again we are faced with news of companies going into administration, job losses, small businesses going under and the general uncertainty of the times. Specific mention must be made of Woolworths, a major High Street retailer whose demise after 100 years of trading would forever alter the traditional landscape of the British High Street. So, what is happening? I think it’s a shaking! A shaking that is unveiling the fraudulent and weak structures that man built and surrounded himself with. It’s a shaking that brings a loud and clear message to all humanity, that only God made and God given structures are fit and can sustain man. My foundation and confidence is in God and His structures. Hope He is yours as well!

~ A word for your week ~ Haggai 2:6-8

Beloved, our text this week says “For thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts. ‘The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,’ says the LORD of hosts.” Jehovah has promised a shaking for all creation and particularly for the nations and this shaking will bring them to the ‘Desire of All Nations’. And who is the Desire of All Nations? I think you know His name! So, it is not all doom and gloom, this will bring glory and honour to our God! And He promises too to fill His temple, the church, with glory! The silver and gold rightly belongs to Him, so, man cannot use His resources as an occasion to build structures and foundations that separates him from His creator. I believe He is bringing a re-alignment of man’s dependence on Him and not on His silver and gold. I believe this is an opportune moment for the church to pray that His will be done! I say Amen in Jesus name! And you?

2009 – Our Year of Uncommon Increase

Beloved, the Lord gave us a prophetic word for 2009, as our year of Uncommon Increase. Now this is an unusual word because of the year we are in. This is the ninth year of the 21st century. Nine is so special because among other dimensions of its symbolism, it is the number of fruitfulness, meaning increase! How do we know that? There are nine gifts of the Holy Spirit, nine dimensions of the fruit of the Holy Spirit and it takes nine months of pregnancy and then comes delivery or fruitfulness or increase! See what God has in store for us? A year of Uncommon Increase! Praise the Lord! A podcast of the message is in the Resources section of our website, I ‘d encourage you to listen to it at your earliest convenience, see the link below:

~ A word for your week ~ Pro 29:18

Beloved, it’s a new year and so a new season in all our lives. However, the question I’d like to ask is, how are you approaching or starting your new season? Our text  today says “Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who   keeps the law” So true is this text that I cannot but ask if you have a vision, dream or goal for 2009? If you don’t, then, there is a risk that you will live your life carelessly, not really appreciating the fact that God has given you another year to maximise the potentials He has placed inside of you. You may call it New Year resolutions, but please have some goals or things that you believe God to achieve this year. It could be in any area or every area of your life. Life is a succession of journeys with goals, targets, visions and dreams to achieve. So, as you start your New Year, have some goals that you trust God for and guess what, our ever so faithful God will not let you down!

·         As you receive the prophetic word, may God flood your life with uncommon increase in every dimension

·         This year shall be your best yet!

·         This year, you shall be blessed and distinguished among many!

Have a great week!
